DIY kitchen checklist.
So you’re in the middle of planning your brand new kitchen, everything is falling into place and you realise there are some things you still need to get in order. We’ve created a checklist for you to refer to which will help make sure you’ve ticked all the boxes when it comes time to installing your DIY kitchen…
Flooring
First off, you need to decide on the type of flooring you want in your kitchen. Will you be keeping your existing tiles? Or even moving towards floorboards or polished concrete? Whatever you choose will impact your future kitchen so make sure it’s something accommodating and design friendly! Your local tradesman will be able to help with this.
Electrical
Unless you’re a qualified sparkie, you better make sure you find yourself a good electrician to organise your kitchen lighting and wire up any new powerpoints or appliances. Pay special attention to the height of your ceiling when considering adding in any hanging lights to make sure you have enough clearance.
Plumbing
If the location of your existing sink has changed, or you’re installing your sink from scratch then you’ll need to get this sorted out with a licensed plumber. A plumber will also come in handy with installing your tapware and dishwasher. Moving an existing sink is definitely something to steer clear of if you’re on a tight budget as it isn’t the most cost-effective design choice. Most plumbers will also be able to move or remove any gas fittings you require.
Splashback
Whether you’re after glass, acrylic, tiles or stainless steel for a splashback, head down to your local Bunnings Warehouse store for a variety of splashback options. If you’ve decided to go with existing exposed brick – even better!
If you follow our guide there’s no way you’ll miss anything when it comes time to start your DIY kitchen project!
