how to plan your kitchen renovation with kaboodle

The kitchen is the heart of the home, we know how important this area is and we want to empower everyone to create a space they love spending time in.

When it comes to renovating, we understand it can often be daunting. In our masterclass: planning 101 kitchen specialist, Cam, steps you through the first steps of the process by simplifying the planning stage.

step 1 - planning & budget

Every renovation needs to start with a plan. Once you determine whether you’ll do it all yourself, some of it yourself or if you’ll get an installer, it’s time to decide on your budget.

It’s vital that you understand your spending capabilities prior to undertaking your kitchen project, so you can budget accordingly. In the planning 101 masterclass video, Cam outlines exactly where your money may be going and how the 3D planner can help guide your spending goals.

step 2 - timeline

After you have completed your budget, you’ll need to put together a rough timeline to help you plan for your kitchen renovation.

Planning ahead will make your renovation as smooth as possible but our best advice is to plan for the unexpected. Life can throw you curveballs so factor in some extra time to account for this. Our planning 101 masterclass will tell you what to expect and help you put together your renovation timeline.

step 3 - measuring

Once you’ve determined your timeline and budget, you’ll need to understand the space you have to work with, so you can maximise every nook and cranny. There are many factors to consider when measuring your area, and accurate measurements are vital. For advice on how to best measure your space, check out our measuring tips design blog

step 4 - inspiration

Now you have measured your space and are confident your dimensions are accurate; you can start looking for inspiration. Look at magazines, websites, Pinterest, Instagram and go into Bunnings stores to check out kitchen displays in real life. We recommend writing a kitchen wish list and consider the functionality of your kitchen. Are you an avid entertainer? Perhaps a big island bench will act as a central meeting point. Are you a budding chef? Maybe you need two ovens. Do you have small children? Consider soft-close door hinges.

step 5 - design

We have a super handy design tool called the 3D kaboodle planner that you can access, free of charge to bring your dream kitchen to life. Unsure how to use the planner? Follow along with Cam as he shows you the ins and outs of the planner, in our 3D planner masterclass.
