Kanika wanted to improve the functionality and style of her existing kitchen and laundry, to create spaces she enjoys cooking and spending time in!
Kanika purchased her house and compromised on the kitchen space for a large backyard. The look of the kitchen was very 70s/80s, with orange tiles, a bulky oven and small fridge space. It felt quite claustrophobic. She would avoid cooking and mostly ordered takeaway to avoid using the space, which was a trigging point for her to update her kitchen, so she could eat healthy and really enjoy her new home.
This was Kanika’s first time renovating, and we think she has done an incredible job. Kanika used antique white doors and panels in the alpine profile in her kitchen and laundry, as well as kaboodle hickory maple benchtops, to create a consistent look and feel throughout her home. Kanika wanted to channel a modern country, farmhouse aesthetic and this colour combination, in conjunction with our brushed brass cabo handles does just that!
“I used antique white throughout my laundry and kitchen. I could have gone bold with colour but since this was my first time doing it white is always safe. The result turned out great. Since the kitchen cabinet background is white, I can display my bold colour Kitchen aid stand mix. White also goes with everything- it blended with my steel appliances like fridge and dishwasher. This colour also makes my gold/brass sink and tapware look pristine.” Says Kanika.
Kanika was surprised by how much storage she could fit into her small space. With the goal of increasing the functionality of the space, Kanika wanted to integrate her waste bin and also maximise her bench space for food prep. “My kitchen space is quite small…it’s more like a C-shaped kitchen that has a small breakfast bar as well. So, keeping everything inside (including the bins) and increasing bench space for prepping and cooking was my goal which is what we have achieved. I got rid of the kettle and fitted in a drinking water tap. I have a pull out trolly for condiments right next to the cooking range which saves time looking for things. My pull-out bin is right next to the prepping area which makes it easy to toss away all the garbage.” Says Kanika.
“Kaboodle is simply awesome in their design style. I am new to home renovation stuff. This was my first renovation ever, so there was a whole lot of learning in the process. I could visualise my kitchen through their 3D planner design tool. Also, what drove me to kaboodle was that I love the Hampton/shaker style look. They have awesome designs in this Hampton range. The material is awesome. You have so many choices to get creative.”
“I am absolutely in love with my kitchen.” Says Kanika, “The new space has changed my life in a big way. I am a busy, busy academic and have been working from home. So having an organised kitchen and laundry is essential. I can run to the kitchen between meeting breaks and make a quick sandwich, no more UberEATS for me.”
