A functional and beautiful kitchen is exactly what Melissa and Alex set out to achieve, when they transformed their kitchen and opened up the space.

Melissa and Alex wanted to open up their space with a modern and sophisticated kitchen that connected with the dining and living areas. So that’s exactly what they did.

Maximising the semi-compact area by making their new kitchen functional as well as beautiful, Melissa and Alex opted for a two-tone colour scheme in an alpine profile to create visual interest in the space.

“Originally, we were wanting a white kitchen as we don’t have much natural light in the space. But after some inspo research, we decided that the shaker two-tone style really appealed,” said Melissa.

“The navy and white colour combination instantly spoke to us. The navy tones of bluepea has a rich, luxurious feel to it while the white is clean, fresh and bright making the space appear even bigger. Together, we think it presents as a really modern and classic look,” added Melissa.

While looks were important, a super functional space was on top of the priority list too.

“We maximised the space by removing a raised bar in the original island to create a wider surface area on the new island benchtop, which now doubles as our breakfast bar. Purpose-built appliance cabinetry was also a great way to maximise the space, giving us the freedom to stack our appliances in a compact and functional way,” said Melissa.

Melissa and Alex call their new kitchen the masterpiece of their home. “We love our new kitchen, and we especially loved that we were able to design and build the kitchen with a bit of help from our family - this really makes it quite special for us.”
