how to create the perfect mudroom

Let us guide you through creating the perfect mudroom to suit your home! A mudroom is a dedicated space in the home that aims to store all your outdoor items and help keep your home clean and clutter free. They are an amazing addition to any home and can be easily incorporated into existing spaces.

Mudrooms have become a fast favourite in Australian homes in recent years and it’s easy to see why! It provides both a functional and aesthetic design element that will add value to your home and everyday life. They often feature bench seating that makes it easy to pop your shoes off at the end of a long day and store them away, ready for the next day.

Building the perfect mudroom is all about creating a functional and organized space that is tailored to your specific needs. Here are some key elements to consider when designing your mudroom.

storage

The most important aspect of any space in your home is storage, providing functional storage in this area will change how you use the space day-to-day. Make the most of the ceiling height in your mudroom area with wall cabinets! Wall cabinets not only provide great storage they also allow you to further define the space, for high ceilings you can stack our slimline cabinets on top. Depending on what you are planning to store in your mudroom our pantry cabinets can come in handy for any larger items such as umbrellas or work as a mini wardrobe for your coats.

bench seating

Bench seating is a great addition to any mudroom design! Having the option to sit down to put your shoes on or take them off is a huge plus, especially after a long day. Depending on the size of your space, we’d recommend using our 600mm 1 drawer base cabinets to create a run of cabinetry. If you are trying to fit an odd shaped area, you can use a combination of benchtops and multi-purpose panels to create a custom bench as shown below.

flooring

If you are retro-fitting a mudroom into your home, we recommend considering if the flooring in that area is appropriate for a potentially muddy area. Where possible, a durable and easy-to-clean flooring material such as tile or floor boards is a must. The flooring should be able to withstand heavy traffic and be easy to clean.

finishing touches

No mudroom is complete without some stylish yet functional hooks and baskets! Use hooks to keep your coats, bags and hats off the floor and in one place - easy to grab when you’re leaving the house in a rush. Baskets serve as additional storage while also adding texture to the space. For a family friendly zone, we suggest allocating each member a drawer or basket. This instils responsibility and accountability, while also helping to create good habits – you can thank us later!
