After purchasing their first home in outer Melbourne close to the seaside, James and Lucy kicked off their full home reno by knocking down a couple of walls to create an open plan space.
Even though their existing u-shaped configuration worked for their space, the couple decided to change their layout. “We planned for an L-shaped design with an island for better accessibility from each end of the room”, James said.
They had an idea of how they wanted their new kitchen to look and used the 3D kaboodle planner to create a few design concepts. This helped the couple visualise what their new kitchen would look like.
“We were so happy to ditch the existing green colour scheme for a more contemporary palette and were drawn to kaboodle’s luminess metallic and nougat truffle doors to create a two-tone look. The calcutta gloss laminate benchtop tied in amazingly with these two colours too”, Lucy said.
“I liked the combination of using discreet grip handles for our base cabinets and push to open hardware for our wall cabinets”, James said.
“The whole building process was really simple and Lucy even picked up a drill and gave me a hand.”
James had no trouble with assembling the kitchen because he’s worked on similar projects before but he did have an off moment when it came to ripping out the old kitchen. “He got a bit carried away and somehow the old benchtop found itself through our window… “, Lucy said.
After all that planning, cabinet building, tiling and painting James and Lucy were incredibly happy with the end result.
“When we look back at older photos of our kitchen, we can’t believe how different our new space looks. Our kitchen is now one of the core hubs of our home because it’s just so interconnected with each room, we love it!” – Lucy.
